"Layers. Onions have layers, Ogres have layers."
— Shrek

Hey friends 🤍

This week marks Newsletter #100 🎊

I actually sat staring at a blank screen for a while wondering what to write about. One hundred newsletters feels significant. Not because of the number itself, but because of everything that's happened while writing them.

Then a thought hit me.

The woman who wrote Newsletter #1 isn't here anymore.

I don't mean that in some dramatic way. I'm still me. I still love personal development, long walks, deep conversations, and trying to understand why human beings do what we do.

But I've changed.

How could I not?

One hundred weeks is a substantial amount of time. A long time to make mistakes. A long time to learn. And a long time to discover that things aren't always what they seem.

Which reminded me of one of my favorite scenes from Shrek.

Shrek is trying to explain to Donkey that ogres are like onions, because they have layers.

I agree. People are like onions too.

We see people's anger, anxiety, perfectionism, control, or people pleasing. But those are usually just the outer layers.

Underneath them are experiences, beliefs, old wounds, protective strategies, and stories we learned long before we were old enough to question them.

And underneath all of that is where we begin to find who we really are.

That's probably the biggest thing these last hundred newsletters have taught me.

The more layers I uncover, the more compassion I have for myself, for other people, and for the complicated ways we all learned to navigate life.

Looking back, I realize I wasn't just writing about relationships, parenting, nervous system regulation, healing, and self-awareness.

  • I was living them
  • I was experiencing them
  • I was letting go of what no longer served me and pulling in what did

Every challenge, every breakthrough, and every lesson became another layer of self-awareness, healing, and integration.

And if there's one thing I know today that I didn't know when I wrote Newsletter #1, it's this:

Compassion, understanding, and presence become much easier when we understand people's layers. Including our own.

So whether you've been reading since the beginning or just found your way here recently, thank you.

Thank you for growing with me. Thank you for asking deeper questions. And thank you for reminding me, week after week, that none of us are finished becoming.

Here's to the next hundred 🥳

With strength and alignment,

06-16-2026 “Some people wear busy the way others wear armor.” Hey friends 🤍 Have you ever noticed how often people answer the question, “How have you been?” with: “Busy.” or, “Just staying busy.”? And what’s interesting is that culturally, we tend to hear that as a positive thing. “You’ve been busy? That’s great.” “Business must be doing well.” “You’re productive.” “You’re successful.” “You’re important.” But, people are not actually busy because they are fulfilled. They are busy because...
